Chobani Review and BIG Giveaway

Only 10 days until the Fearless Feeding launch and we are upping the giveaways.

In the book, we highlight 5 Fearless Nutrients for each age and stage (infancy, toddlerhood, school-age and teen). These are nutrients that kids are most likely to fall short on — two that get the most air time are calcium and vitamin D. In fact, according to a 2012 study published in The Journal of Pediatrics, even with supplement use more than a third of children of all ages fail to meet calcium and vitamin D recommendations.

These two nutrients work together to help build strong bones. Calcium is needed to be deposited into bone but vitamin D holds the key that allows calcium to enter. So when vitamin D is low, calcium isn’t utilized efficiently. Additionally, inadequate vitamin D has been linked to a variety of diseases such as diabetes, autoimmune disorders, heart disease and certain cancers (not causal but related).

Knowing your child’s calcium and vitamin D needs at each stage is important. One to three-year-olds need 700mg of calcium, four-year-olds need 1,000mg and nine to eighteen-year-olds need 1300mg! In the first year of life, the RDA for vitamin D is 400IU and this jumps to 600IU for the rest of childhood.

Dairy foods like yogurt can help children meet their needs. They provide the most bang for the buck in terms of calcium, and many products are supplemented with vitamin D.

The product we are highlighting today is a new line from Chobani Greek Yogurt that makes it easy and fun for kids to enjoy yogurt: Champions Tubes. These yogurt sticks give kids authentic strained Greek low-fat yogurt without having to bring along the spoon. They are made with real fruit and natural ingredients. And they taste really good.

These tubes can be frozen (the way we like them) and are great to include in the lunch box or as a snack. I’ve been including them for Big A’s snack a few times a week along with a side of fruit. I like that these yogurt tubes have twice the protein as other on-the-go yogurt products.

The Champion Tubes come in the following flavors: Swirlin’ Strawberry Banana, Rockin’ Blueberry, Jammin’ Strawberry and Chillin’ Cherry. Each tube also has 6% DV of calcium (60mg) and 15% DV of vitamin D (60IU).

tubes_family

The Chobani Champions 3.5 ounces yogurts also make a great choice for kids. My kids usually don’t eat a whole 6-ounce container so the size is perfect. They come in Very Berry, Orange Vanilla, Banana Honey and Vanilla Chocolate Chunk and contain 10% DV of calcium (100mg) and 20% DV of vitamin D (80IU).

very-berry

The question of sugar always comes up. The total sugars in these products comes from a combination of the natural sources in milk and fruit along with evaporated cane juice used to sweeten the fruit, vanilla and chocolate chunk items. They have plain as an option (not in the tube but other Chobani products). In our house, Big A eats flavored yogurt while Little D prefers plain. These tubes also make a nice alternative to frozen treats.

These are wonderful products. They skip the artificial ingredients and colors while providing probiotics that are beneficial for a healthy gastrointestinal tract. Greek yogurt is naturally higher in protein due to how it’s made. See this link for more on Chobani’s yogurt-making process.

In honor of the Fearless Feeding launch, Chobani has generously offered for two lucky winners to get 3 months’ worth of free yogurt! For any frequent yogurt buyer that that’s quite a savings. Jill is holding the same giveaway so head over there for another chance to win.

And don’t forget the other giveaway which ends at midnight tonight for HeatlhyEating.org. (once the launch happens I will move to less frequent giveaways).

Here’s what you need to do to enter:

1) Mandatory Entry: Leave a comment saying why you want to win 3 months of free yogurt from Chobani.

2) For a second entry: Join our Fearless Feeding Community (LIKE) on Facebook and leave a comment here saying you did. If you already like us, you can sign up for our free newsletter.

3) For a third entry: Like Chobani Champions on Facebook.

4) For a fourth entry “Like” or tweet this page. Again, leave another comment.

One winner will be chosen using random.org. The winner will be announced on Raise Healthy Eater’s Facebook Page. This giveaway ends next Friday, April 19th, at midnight.

You must be 18 to enter. Products shipped within the US only.

Yoghurt takes up such a massive part of our grocery bill. We recently purchased an easiyo maker but even the sachets for that are a big expense and then kids LOVE yoghurt. They’ll have it with their breakfast, in their school lunch (the sticks would be perfect for that) and for dessert after dinner. We go through truckloads, and we let them because they are getting a truckload of calcium along the way! Would love to win this to give our wallet a well earned break and to try some different lunch options for the kids!

I’d love to receive 3 free months because it would save us a ton of money! Just being honest here… as we speak, I have 5 different flavors of Chobani in my fridge, both in the kitchen and the backup one in the garage. 4 of the tubs are the 32 oz ones… vanilla and plain. We use it for everything. Tzatziki sauce, in place of sour cream, in veggie dips, in smoothies, in eggs, as a condiment, as a snack, as a breakfast. I have six of the black cherry mid size tubs, and some assorted smaller tubs and flavors. This will last me roughly (maybe) 1-2 weeks. YUM! My youngest child has Prader-Willi Syndrome and Chobani is literally a part of our weekly nutrition plan for her and always will be. Because of that, it’s part of our entire family’s plan.

We buy these for my son because GoGurt has dye in them and my son has a dye intolerance. We can only get the strawberry and blueberry near us, but they’re a great product!

I eat chobani daily. My son has issues with his stomach so I am going to switch him from his yogurt to Chobani tubes. By winning 3 months free, we would be able to see the change in his stomach issues!

I have a two year old who has always been a picky eater. He LOVES Chobani Champions! It is always a hit at snack time and the fact he gets a little fruit in there and protein is a plus! I am a teacher and financially times are tough. Our family would be so blessed to have Chobani come to our house. Plus, it is hard to find all of the flavors (which I know my son would love) in our grocery stores. This Mommy is a big fan of the yogurt too!

I’m looking for a healthy yogurt for my kids. They really liked Chobani Champions but I have not been able to find them in stores. Do you know if they have discontinued this product? Thanks!

I am a grandma on disability and I have 5 grandchildren who like to hang at my house. As their parents are hurting for money I try to help get snacks for their lunches to take to school. Almost every snack I have bought has proved to be a dismal failure. Too much sugar, too many dyes, too many additives, too much salt, spoils before they can open their lunch to eat it. I am so very frustrated. I just bought two boxes of “gogurt” and now am reading that even they have coloring added (you can’t even see what color it is when you suck it out of a plastic bag!!!) and a lot of sugar. I see here that Chobani has tubes and is actually healthy. Would love to strike a home run with my daughter in law and show up with school lunch snacks that would ease their budget and provide nutrition. Thanks.
