
2017 is the year of the Healthy Mindset as I prepare for my next research-based book and podcast. I want to dig into the ways of thinking that enhance health and well being, and the ways that keep us stuck in struggle (always keeping in mind a broader view of health).
Today’s Mindful Minute highlights two quotes from one of my favorite books, The Art of Possibility. Here’s the first one:
Many circumstances that seem to block us in our daily lives may only appear to do so based on a framework of assumptions we carry with us. Draw a different frame around the same set of circumstances and new pathways come into view.
I love this because it tells such an essential truth: it’s our framework, or mindset, that determines what we experience even though we tend to think of it as “just the way things are.” It’s powerful to know we can re-write our stories.
This week let’s be mindful of the areas in which we struggle and try to draw a different frame around it. The Art of Possibility puts it this way:
A simple way to practice it’s all invented is to ask yourself this question: What assumption am I making, That I’m not aware I’m making, That gives me what I see?
And when you have an answer to that question, ask yourself this one: What might I now invent, That I haven’t yet invented, That would give me other choices?”
